Something I feel I should write about, and it's very hard to put down on paper, is the recent mass shooting that happened in Las Vegas. It is known as "the deadliest shooting in modern US history" according to CNN. On Sunday night, October 1, 2017, tourists and concert goers all around came to watch James Aldean perform country music at the Route 91 Harvest Festival. At 10:08 pm, what sounded like fireworks turned out to be an assault rifle raining down bullets from the 32nd floor of the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino. Innocent people were targeted, and as a result, roughly 59 were killed. 22,000 people attended the concert. A couple from Santa Barbara who were there are among the 527 who were injured. They are being hospitalized and expected to recover.
Hearing the news is heartbreaking, I can't imagine what it must have been like to witness this firsthand. It was like "shooting fish in a barrel." The shooting took place toward the exits. No one could get out. Loved ones, family members, a navy veteran, countless others, have been pronounced deceased by this act of madness. All I want are answers. Why did Steven Paddock choose to commit this senseless act? Did he have a heart? How could anyone possible have the strength to do this without mercy?
This is so shocking because no one saw it coming. Steven Paddock wasn't tied to any international terrorist group. There doesn't seem to be a specific reason. All those people that went to the concert just wanted to enjoy it, and return back home. It is truly devastating. The best we can do is pray, and hope for the recovery of those who have been inflicted. When a tragedy like this happens, just remember that life is precious. If anyone feels like they could use the support, head to the Health and Wellness connection on campus. For those in Vegas, for those who personally know the victims, and others who are having a hard time struggling to comprehend this situation, my heart and prayers are with you.
Sincerely,
Angelica

Athlete of the Week: Tiffany Costello (My Roommate!)
Hey guys I am back! I am so excited to announce that Tiffany Costello has gotten the Athlete of the Week award for our school. For those of you who do not know her, she is an extremely dedicated runner ands has an incredible work ethic. Not only is she fit and focused on pursuing her goals, but she also keeps a healthy mindset, and is primarily vegan. In the future, she wants to become a dietician, a physical therapist, and plans to participate in the Iron Man challenge, which involves a marathon, bike ride, and swim without any breaks in between.
She does track and field, as well as cross country. I met her on move- in day at Beach City. I was extremely nervous because this would be my first time away from home. Knowing that I had to live with 6 other girls in one apartment was going to be a big change for me. Luckily, meeting her made me realize that going away to attend college in Santa Barbara was the best decision -and here's why.
When I met Tiffany, she was so welcoming, fun, and had such a vibrant personality. I instantly liked her and felt less anxious. She talked enthusiastically about participating in track and field, along with cross country. For a year and a half since attending school she has not missed a day of running. Her average day starts off with a 5:30am run, then training , going to class while still maintaining a 3.9 GPA, hot yoga, ocean swimming and studying at the achievement zone. She cools off with an ice bath and falls asleep to endlessly loud music.
Tiffany is the craziest, most ambitious person you will ever meet. I aspire to be like her. She encourages you to work out at least once a day, to conquer your fears, and begin the day with a positive attitude. She made me realize that I can be more involved at school. I don't have to be afraid of trying new things, and I can have fun doing what I love. At SBCC I can explore, become more motivated, and set my heart towards success.

About Me
Morning Selfie |
Hey everyone! Its so nice to meet you all! I'm Angelica and I cannot wait to write to you about events and student life that happens here at SBCC.I usually start my day with a cup of coffee, so with some caffeine in my system and genuine excitement, I intend to write my first blog for you guys! I have spent most of my time living in Los Angeles. I originally would have gone to a community college in my hometown, but once I heard that that I could attend school right by the beach in Santa Barbara, I was hooked!
Overlook |
Currently, I live in Beach City with 6 other roommates. Before moving in, I was really nervous, but deciding to come here turned out for the best. I have made new friends, walked in on the most random parties, and have come across some great views. My favorite is the Overlook. It's right on campus and it is absolutely stunning. You guys should check it out! I will really try to go out of my way find places that I can share.
Graduation Day! |
My hobbies I include running, swimming , listening to music, and watching Netflix. Im so psyched for the second season of Stranger Things to come out. It's going to be epic. Also, as a Starbucks partner, I get Spotify Premium, so I can keep downloading my favorite songs and enjoy them, for free! Next semester, Im really hoping to get into the music program. Before I attended college, I went to an all arts high school. I played the viola for a couple years, but then as a senior I auditioned for piano. I have kept up with piano for 10 years, and graduated at Walt Disney Concert Hall. It was a great experience. Music will always be a part of who I am. It has really taught me to be more disciplined, creative, and to be brave when it comes to meeting new challenges.
Though my major is undeclared , I still find that as an opportunity to explore and declare a major in the near future.I am taking English , Math , Sociology and Psychology. My favorite class is English 110. Sophia and I instantly clicked. She plays basketball and enjoys writing as much as I do. Since our class starts at 6, we both share food with each other. Basically its our dinner time, and we end up having enough energy to pay attention, without falling asleep! Im really looking forward to Club Week this upcoming week! Its going to be a great way to get involved. So glad I could introduce myself :) Looking forward to publishing more of random things and interests that I come across! For now, I will close off with one of my favorite quotes, since I'm pretty much obsessed with them. "Imperfection is beauty, madness is genius, and its better to be absolutely ridiculous than absolutely boring" - Marilyn Monroe
